چکیده

Case Report A 16-year-old boy presents to the allergy clinic with complaints of perioral itching and tingling after handling apples at his father’s fruit stall. He had experienced such symptoms on previous occasions, but this time he has developed mild lip swelling and tongue itching, as well. He has a history of seasonal allergic rhinitis that is controlled by nasal steroid spray. His father is concerned that the reaction might be due to pesticides. A skin prick test with fresh apples gives a positive response that confirms the clinical diagnosis of oral allergy syndrome (OAS).

Proposed new mechanism for food and exercise induced anaphylaxis based on case studies

We present two cases of food and exercise-induced anaphylaxis (FEIA) in patients with a diagnosis of oral allergy syndrome (OAS) to the implicated foods. Patient A had FEIA attributed to fresh coriander and tomato and Patient B to fresh celery. These food allergens have been implicated in OAS and have structural antigenic similarity to that of birch and/or grass. Both patients' allergies were c...

Clinical Protests Food Allergy in Children

The best recognized intestinal manifestation of food allergy is food allergic (food-sensitive) enteropathy. The feature of enteropathy may include lymphocyte and plasma cell infiltration, epithelial abnormality, or crypt hyperplastic villous atrophy, and impairing absorption, enterophaty continues while the food remains in the diet, remitting on an exclusion diet, and usually recurring on food ...

Oral administration of Clostridium butyricum CGMCC0313-1 inhibits β-lactoglobulin-induced intestinal anaphylaxis in a mouse model of food allergy

BACKGROUND Probiotic bacteria can induce immune regulation or immune tolerance in patients with allergic diseases, but the underlying mechanisms are still unclear. There has been a growing interest in the use of beneficial bacteria for allergic diseases recently. This study aimed at exploring whether Clostridium butyricum CGMCC0313-1 (C. butyricum) can reduce β-lactoglobulin(BLG)-induced intest...

PATHOGENESIS OF FOOD ALLERGY The GI barrier

The development of food allergy requires an immunological reaction directed to a food antigen. This reaction may involve immunoglobulin E (IgE) or T lymphocytes (T cells) or some components of both IgE and T cells (mixed IgE/non-IgE reaction). Food allergy can manifest as cutaneous, respiratory, systemic (anaphylaxis) or gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. The GI manifestations are listed in Table ...

Anaphylaxis from ingestion of mites: pancake anaphylaxis.

Oral mite anaphylaxis is a new syndrome characterized by severe allergic symptoms occurring immediately after eating foods made with mite-contaminated wheat flour. This syndrome, which is more prevalent in tropical environments, is triggered more often by pancakes, and for that reason, it has been designated "the pancake syndrome." Because cooked foods are able to induce the symptoms, it has be...

Oral allergy syndrome and risk of food-related anaphylaxis: a cross-sectional survey analysis

Background Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS) is an IgE-mediated allergic response to fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables caused by cross-reactivity between pollen allergens and structurally similar food proteins. Alder pollen is a prominent allergen in coastal British Columbia, present at high levels from FebruaryApril. We hypothesized that this exposure may lead to increased prevalence of Alder pollen...
